Ardeshir Mohasses (1938–2008) was a renowned Iranian cartoonist and illustrator celebrated for his sharp political satire and poignant critique of social and political issues in Iran. Born in Lahijan, he studied political science at Tehran University but found his calling in art, using his illustrations to comment on topics such as authoritarianism, injustice, and cultural hypocrisy. Mohasses’s works, often rendered in ink and characterized by their dark humor and intricate detail, vividly portrayed scenes from both historical and contemporary Iran, blending traditional Persian aesthetics with modern storytelling. He gained international recognition, with his works exhibited in prestigious institutions such as the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) in New York. Despite living in exile in the United States from the mid-1970s, his art remained deeply rooted in the cultural and political fabric of Iran, making him a significant voice in the world of contemporary art and political commentary.
